Teleburn...

Came across an interesting snippet of news on yet another example of how smart phones can be effectively used in delivery of health care. Lehigh Valley Health Network's Regional Burn Center in Pennsylvania offers a service called ‘Teleburn’ which delivers images to any Internet enabled device, thus allowing consultation to be carried out wherever the burn specialist happens to be. Particularly useful for remote physicians who can photograph burn injuries, then upload the high-resolution images online so specialists at Lehigh's Burn Center can decide whether patient transport is indicated, thereby preserving bed space for the most severe burn patients. Previously, these consultations were done by phone, and patients who could have been treated at their local hospital sometimes were transported to the center. A good example of improving access to quality care at a reduced cost – win win!
