Second Life Assessment

As my first real foray into SecondLife (SL), it was quite an introduction to this virtual environment by ‘teleporting’ to the Virtual Hallucinations building available on the SL public site (i.e. not Davis Island). Once I was able to get my bearings and navigate more accurately inside the building itself I started to activate the various visual and aural hallucinations that were available. Throughout my trip (no pun intended) in the building I came across morphing posters, whispering voices, images of a gun and death. I have to say that despite the fact the graphics are a bit ‘choppy’ at times and my avatar appeared to merge into a wall or two if I turning around quickly the auditory effects in particular are quite startling. I found myself having to turn off each of the auditory hallucinations as they started to become a bit unnerving while I walked down the various corridors. I definitely felt I had some sense of how intrusive the voices of schizophrenia really are especially if the statement or word is negative, which in this case was pretty much all of them. Anyway, for those of you who have yet to check it out, it is well worth it!
